The Longest Night of My Life [14 Feb 2003|07:02am]
[ music | Counting Crows - Up All Night ]

This is why I don't nap.

I fully intended to go to bed last night at midnight. By 12:30 I had turned off my computer monitor, and was climbing into bed. By 1 AM I was turning off the light. By 1:30 I was tossing and turning uncontrolably, so I turned the TV on and watched the end of SportsCenter. By 2 AM the TV was off again, so I began my tossing and turning routine.

By 2:30 I begged for sleep. By the end of the night I begged for sleep to end. Last night featured more crazy, out-there, fucked up dreams than I can recall in a long time, including:

  • what a 737 going off a quarter-pipe would look like, and what it would feel like for my family and friends inside.
  • me having tickets to the first three Met home games (the second two of which were a doubleheader) and wanting nothing more than to boo them off the field.
  • no fewer than four blazing rows with my mom and sister.
  • my stint as head council for an insane queen who wanted to stop a charging elephant-monster using only her crown in some sort of psychotic, real-life chess fantasy.

By the time I awoke, I vowed never to sleep again. It's too much work.

Dreams [10 Feb 2003|09:03am]

I've been having some really fucked up dreams lately. The latest was this morning around 6 AM, and it involved Barry Manilow, Mariah Carey, a grue that had nested under my house, and several pairs of socks. Also, some sort of Battle To The Death at the Museum of Natural History in Washington, DC. I don't believe I was involved in the Battle To The Death, but I was there for some reason.

It also involved an alarm clock, which resulted in my turning off my alarm clock in real life, which resulted in my being ten minutes late to work with no breakfast or even time to brush my teeth.

Damn, dreams suck.

I wonder how many LiveJournal users start a journal, update once, and forget about it forever.

I am not one of them.

Ultimatum [03 Feb 2003|06:58pm]
[ music | Goo Goo Dolls - Big Machine ]

I was told today by my mom that I have to break up with Amanda.

"Why?" I asked.

"Because you don't blog enough anymore."

What I think she really was looking for was more about what I'm doing about my life, the way I used to in the early days of Maximum Aardvark. More and more, I've been writing about some school work, some sports, some articles I've read...but not much personal detail. This is unfortunate, because I like having my life out there for all to read. Just the same, I don't feel like Maximum Aardvark is still a journal of my life.

Enter LiveJournal.

My aim with this will be to separate my "personal" and "professional" lives, like Les Orchard does with 0xDECAFBAD and his LiveJournal, but I doubt if I'll attain the same level of separation that he has. More likely, personal things will continue to spill out into Maximum Aardvark when necessary; I certainly won't be censoring myself or anything.

So if you're totally uninterested in the details of my life, skip this. Read Maximum Aardvark. But you can have it both ways, because I'll try to make it a point to keep the world informed of what I'm doing on a day-to-day (or, at the very least, a week-to-week) basis here.

Thanks for reading.
